Sony updated its PlayStation Store refund policy Monday, letting you get your money back on games, add-ons or downloadable content within two weeks.
The tweaked policy allows you get the money back into your PlayStation Network wallet until you hit download or stream the content. After that, you’re out of luck and have to prove it’s faulty before you can get your money back.
If you’re the type of person who might regularly make purchases you regret, disabling automatic downloads on your PS4 might be a good move.
For pre-ordered content, there are two options. If you buy a game more than 14 days before its release date, you can request a refund until it’s out. Should you order the game within the two-week window before it comes out, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to make the request.
If you’re looking to get a refund on subscription services like PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Now or Spotify Premium on PlayStation Music, there’s extra factor to consider. You’ll have 14 days to make the request, but it’ll deduct any time used from the refund.
“For example, if a player buys a PlayStation Plus 12-Month Membership and requests a refund seven days after the purchase date, the refund amount will be reduced to reflect any use of the subscription, such as playing online, downloading monthly games, using cloud storage etc,” the policy explains.
It’s not the most generous returns policy — both Steam and the Epic Games Store let you return games you’ve played for less than two hours within two weeks, so you actually get to give them a try.
